i may be wrong but i don't think such a beast exists and would probably cost more than a pro dslr if one was feasable, are you not getting confused with a 3ccd video camera of which there are a few available.

i mean it

No, i know what i'm talking about, 3CCD digital SLR, because most of Digital SLR uses 1CCD chip, so i thik if there a 3CCD cam, it will give me a perfect and accurate color and pictures than 1CCD cam.

I may be wrong, but didn't Sigma release one? It was 3 x 4 megapixel CCDs iirc.

Hmm, looks like one to avoid at all costs after reading the negative attributes!!! But, it can use rechargeable batteries, so its not all bad news.

know what your talking about yet cant find anything about it?
maybe you should think twice!
The sigma foevon chip never really took off after all the press releases about it, polaroid stuck it in a few compacts a few years ago, the X3 doesnt (afaik) mean it has 3 chips. Like it has been mentioned this is used in camcorders to separate light entering the lens into R G and B so they can be recorded with more detail on 3 chips. SLRs dont house a prism like this to split the light
Good luck with that buddy

On second thoughts, your not confusing the system of having 3 layers to the sensor, each one being sensitive to one colour of the spectrum? this isnt 3ccd like camcorders though. And im not sure they are even CCD chips, might be CMOS i think

I used to own a Sigma SD9 and despite all of its faults, it has still captured some amazing images for me, and being such a complete pain in the butt has made me appreciate the Canon 1D i now own so much more! Having said that i would love to re-buy a Sigma at some point if i find any spare cash, as for me the detail and colour i got from that camera was amazing at that price point.

I am still a huge believer that the bayer sensor in virtually every digital camera needs to be scrapped sooner rather than later, but clearly the millions the Canon, Nikon, Sony et al have invested into CCD and CMOS bayer colour mosaic sensors are not going to help in this process.

The foveon X3 chip doesn't use a split prism to seperate the colours, instead it is more like 3 sensors all over the top of each other, which seperate out the colours due to the way light penetrates silicon at different wavelengths. The thinking is this is actually closer to how film works, certainly looks better from my experiences.

yeah that is how film works which i think was probably the reason they designed the chip that way. I didnt like the results so much. It could be greatly improved and certainly saves space inside the body compared the the camcorder way of doing things
