Can I get a decent digital camera (new) for under £100?

Hi,
I'm new to all this digital stuff...
I would like a small, lightweight, digital camera with an optical zoom.
For under £100, with all the necessary bits included so I can connect it to my PC.
Any suggestions?
Many thanks,
Richard

You won't go far wrong with the Casio EXILIM EX-S100.
For £99.99 you can get a refurbished one. This is a 3 megapixel, 3 X optical zoom little beauty! Don't worry about it being refurbished as it's as good as new.
You even get the full 12 months warranty. There's a thread on this camera plus a link to where to get it here..... ultra compact camera

Does the £100 include memory card and everything?

Hi BowenJones...
Thanks for the recommendation of the Casio.
Would I still have to buy a memory card, on top of the £100?
I'm a very occasional camera user, and my budget is £100 for everything...
I would probably only use it for 6" x 4" prints, and for e-mails.
Thanks,
Richard

Question about memory cards

Thanks for the Samsung recommendation, mjw123...
It looks good... the Argos webpage says the Memory Card is an extra... I presume this the norm when buying a Digital Camera...
If so how many cards would I need... how many photos would their 128MB card hold? (probably more than enough for me anyway)...
Thanks,
Richard

I guess you're looking at about 70 shots on a 128Mb card at 4Mp res

Here's another belting deal for a slightly smaller but excellent quality cam :-

http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/...303609-8884644

Do some research on dpreview.com and see which gets the best rating and which suits your requirements.

DONT buy your memory cards from the high street - the costs are disgracefull. You can get them dead cheap from ebay or 7dayshop.com

Any of the cameras mentioned here would suit your needs. Don't know much about the Samsung but the Pentax has had some really good feedback from users. The Casio is the smallest of the three mentioned if that helps.
As mjw123 said, don't buy memory cards from the high street as you'll be very lucky to find any bargains in the shops. I bought a 512mb SD card from here....http://www.mymemory.co.uk/memory/San...e/Digital)/(R))
and it only cost me about £20. On the Casio, you can get 275 photos with this card if you set the camera to it's highest quality.
I think you'd be very pleased with any of these cameras.

Worth taking a look in any of the bigger Boots branches they often have end of line models cut by 50% then if not sold 50% again off that. Wife works in one and has often mentioned £400 original price cameras ending up being sold for £99. Still have full years warranty, money back if not happy too. This way you can end up with top of range make / model for silly money just because its not the latest model.

Just take one from Curry`s. Any model you fancy.
I doubt the fine would reach £100 from the Magistrate.

Richard, I hope I'm not insulting you here but you will only need 1 memory card. you can download your photos off the card onto the computer once it is full thus re-using the memory card over and over again.

True, but it's always best to have a second card just in case the first one fails or becomes full before you can get to a PC. Just got back from Moscow and filled one and a half 512mb cards in four days!

That 5200 was a belting offer - i'll look around but doubt you'll match that.

At a price like that, I didn't think it would take them long to sell out.

Many thanks for all the advice and great suggestions!
I like the sound of the smallest and lightest... the Casio EXILIM EX-S100... Now I just need to track one down for under £100...
Richard

As a secondary question, my elderly parents want a very easy to use digital camera, but still with an optical zoom, and again, under £100... Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Richard

You can get the Casio here.....http://www.casioextra.co.uk/products...ProductID=1902
Ignore the out of stock bit as they don't update the website. Also, don't worry about it being refurbished as it will be as good as new.

Any of the cameras mentioned in this thread are all really easy to use. If you're not very adventurous, just leave the camera in Auto mode, point and shoot! It really will be that easy for them.
Good luck with whatever camera you choose. The Casio really is a little gem. Some of the other cameras mentioned in this thread do produce better results but, if you're only going to be printing 6X4's, the Casio will be fine.
