Red face Have I Messed Up

Hi all erm im a bit stuck. My friend has just brought a new computer from dell, we have taken all the pictures of his camera and put them on his computer. Now Dell have told him to send the computer back due to a fault and we need to get all the pictures back to his camera. I have a sony cybershot and have tryed to do it on my own computer and it wont let me put the pics back on the camera. Im not sure what camera he has but when we put the pictures on his computer it removed them of the camera. Anyone have any ideas what to do as he wants to take his memory card (with the pictures on) to a local printing shop and get them printed. Thanks all And i dont have the heart to tell him i cant get them back to his camera.

You should be able to copy back to the camera in Windows Explorer (not Internet Explorer!). The camera should appear as a removeable drive in My Computer. If it isn't there already, create a folder called DCIM on the camera & copy the files to that.

If that fails & you have a CD-R burn them to disk instead.

I've never used a Boots (Kodak?) reader but I believe they give an option to create a CD. Logically there must also be a facility to read it subsequently. Worst case, he can e-mail them to an online photo printer.

Connect his camera to his PC via the usb lead & close any camera manufacturers software that autoloads. Open My Computer & the camera will be shown either as a drive or specifically. Double click on the icon for the camera/drive & check for a folder called DCIM. If it doesn't exist, right click in a space in the camera window & select New > Folder. Name this folder DCIM. Copy the images back from the PC to this folder & they should now be viewable on the camera as long as you haven't changed the names of the files.

For reference, try NOT to use the Kodak machines in Boots. The quality is awful. Try and find somewhere local, independent or something or somewhere that may use fuji quick booths as the pictures are better than kodak.

In my opinion of course.

I agree about the quality of boots prints. The best commercial solution I have found is Colourama. We used to have a Colourama shop and I used to take a CD into them, but you can upload over the web.
