Ixus 750

Hi

Has anyone got the new Canon IXUS 750? I am selling my IXUS 500 with 1GB CF Card (on ebay) in order to get one of these - does anyone know if they are any good?

Cheers

John

I too have been holding out for one of these. From what I have been told, some suppliers will have these in stock this week.

According to pixmania.co.uk they appear to have stock at £330.00.

I hope to buy from UK Digital though. Everytime I call them they are helpful and knowledgable and according to their website will be selling at £309.00 inc. VAT. Anyone with their attitude and price deserves the business.

i would not order from pixmania again for the following reasons:

if it goes wrong and you send it back - costs a bloody fortune sending things to paris - I had a printer under the zen engagement and it went tits up so i had to return it at my own expense - 40 bloody quid!!

another reason is that quite often, you will not be supplied with a user manual in english - what use to anyone is a manual in german? unless you are german of course??

I to will be giving ukdigital a phone this morning as I certainly want the new ixus within the next week or so

Thats interesting. I noticed by looking at the item description on pixmania.co.uk that the manual was in French but that the English version was downloadable?!

I spoke to UK Digital earlier this week and they suggested they would have some towards the end of this week. Fingers crossed for a Saturday morning delivery

I have just ordered one from them as well. I ordered online this morning yet my order status is still "processing". Hopefully it will shift tomorrow. I would have ordered from UK Dig, but on their website it states stock next week and I don't want to wait that long

Cheers

im going on holiday on the 25th,i was also thingking of buying one at duty free.my ? is how cheep is duty free, sameone said its not that cheap,it could even be more pricey.

for example=dixsons is selling the fuji f10 for £230.

at duty free in dixsons would it be less which is minus 17.5% tax of the £230,or which i heard is minus 17.5% tax of the rsp.

ps not sure is it 17.5% or 10%

To get the price vat free price subtract 14.89%
So for example £239 - 14.89% = £195.75 and £195.75 + vat@17.5% = £230
However I don't think that this is how duty free shops work as there is no duty as such on cameras, vat is a different thing altogether, I think you still have to pay it unless you can show the goods will be exported to a non EEC country, and I don't think taking it on holiday with you counts.
You probably would get a better bargain buying it at your holiday destination and then not declaring it.

be very careful if you buy abroad as there are plenty of shops selling a load of crap - my advice would be to go to an official dealer. I bought a sony camera from Florida a few years ago from an official sony dealer and never had any probs.

I have had my Ixus 750 since Wednesday and it is excellent. I have only had chance to take a few basic shots round the garden and what have you however I am happy with the initial results. Hoping to take it out this weekend and take some decent pictures.

I would also recommend EasyGadget as a supplier for this camera.

I also got my IXUS 750 on Weds and I am very pleased also.

With regards to Easy Gadget, It is a good supplier however, I feel that they need to get their act together regarding delivery and start offering next day delivery - in this world of internet shopping, it should not take 6 days for an order to be completed.

So which would be the better camera if it was a choice between the Ixus 750 and Powershot S80. I like the look of both of these, but I also like the look of the S2.

I currently have a Canon Ixus i, the small 4MP one. Would I notice a lot of difference from this camera? I only mainly use it for shots on the go and holiday shots. I also like taking pics of cars

I am happy with my 750 so far but to be fair I haven't had the opportunity to take any decent shots yet. Certainly the test shots I have taken in the garden and "out and about" have come out nicely.

As a previous FZ3 owner this camera has a lot to live up to so time will tell. No longer having the excellent 12x zoom capability has been a major trade off however the physical size of the 750 is proving a great asset for me.

The digital zoom on the 750 is seriously crap compared to the 12x optical zoom on the FZ3 but I guess that is to be expected.

Is the 3x optical zoom ok on the 750? I currently have no optical at all on my ixus i and it just has 4.8x digital, which is quite honestly awful.

I think I need some lessons on taking a good photo. I'm a bit hit and miss [] my day photos are quite good, but night are sometimes bad. I tend to leave the camera on auto, but slowly trying to test the manual features.

I would like something with a bit of decent optical zoom on so that I can take nice pics whilst zooming in.

Size wise I was considering the 750 or S80 for size as I only tend to use it on days out and holidays.

The 3x optical zoom is fine in my opinion and the shots I have taken at 3x are sharp enough. As a general point and shoot I think 3x is enough for me for the time being but 12x was really nice on the FZ3.

I like the fact that the camera powers up almost in an instant so you can be ready to take a shot very quickly.

Some people have commented on the size of the physical controls however I have quite large hands and I don't have any problems at all.

I deliberated a long time over my choice and I am very happy with my 750 and it's nice to have the latest model...

I too am very happy with the ixus 750. I took it out for the 1st time proper yesterday and took lots of shots of my kids at the local fun fair - I am really pleased with the results and in my opinion, it is far better than the ixus 500.
