Lens for Landscape photography on D70?

Hi all,

I'm looking for a lens to allow me to take decent landscape images on my D70. I assume i need a wideangle lens but what should i be looking for?

Can you guys help me out with some options on the different lenses and the different price ranges.

Any pictures of your work with any recommended lenses would also be great.

Thanks in advance

Guy (Radiohead) posted some shots with his new lens. Not very wide with the crop factor but some good results there.

Nikkor 24mm f/2.8 - what a great lens

Thanks Seany

The 24mm f/2.8 obviously isn't as wide as the kit 18-70mm, but is a fair bit faster and is tack sharp. A bargain if you find a decent used on.

As a comparison, the 18mm f/2.8 Nikkor prime is a £1150 lens, and the AF 14mm F2.8 is £1097.

So a true, wide prime is serious money.

Sorry mate - Sean it is then.

I looked at the 14mm, then looked at my credit card statement, and looked at the second-hand section.

:D

For the money you are not going to get better than the 18-70mm kit lens, as you can see from the above prices. Advice is to take shots with this lens & if & when you get to a point you feel justifies better glass, then go for it.

Note the kit 18-70mm lens is raved about for its quality. It's actually the main reason I changed from Canon 300D with kit lens to the Nikon D70 with kit lens, as it was cheaper than upgrading the Canon to similar glass levels.
