This is a photo of our good friends little girl jessica, who we love to bits. Sweetest little girl we've ever known.


Diane's going to be her new baby brothers godmother in a couple of weeks and i thought one of these photos would make a good gift if i get a decent modern frame. Taken at full res so it'll be a decent size (original)


Get something for liam to of course.

Do you think any of them would make a good gift with a contemporary frame?

The first two are better than the third in my opinion... a more contemporary style of photography for a more cotemporary frame....

I prefer the first - number two has hair across the right eye which makes it appear in shadow, and the third is more of a snapshot, plus the top of the head has been cropped (although that's true of all three)

Number 2 looks more natural, less posed (although the comment regarding the hair is true it does not spoil the picture); better exposure/contrast too. In No 1 her face is in shadow, No 3 is very much a snapshot style of picture. I think No 2 would look great in a frame....well done

I'd go with the second one. Hard to tell where the focus point is on this small version. If its on the eye behind the hair its a winner.

I understand the 'arty' appeal of b+w but it would not be my choice.

No1, its a nice nice bright shot, the pose looks very natural and relaxed, think her parents would be well chuffed mate.

I'd also go with the first one mate its a great shot. However you know her best so its worth going with the one you think its most like her - if that makes sense What I'm trying to say is that although I prefer the first two pics, they are all good. So if you remember her most with pigtails and that cute little grin in the 3rd picture rather than with her head on her hands in the other two, then I'd go for that one.

You could always go for one of those modern frames that have space for 3 pics and use them all

Cheers fellas 1's been my fav from the start. Just wanted some opinions and thanks for giving them

Right some advice now chaps about settings for printing. I'm going to take it to jessops do i have to change the DPI (original's 72 dpi) or anything or is that only for home printing, and how large should i go with a res of 3504 x2336

if i do need to change the DPI how do i do it, i don't use PS anywhere near like i should be doing

Cheers mate, i do have an account with them just that i'm off to town today so i was going to bang it in jessops to see if they could do it in an hr.

Just need to know if i should change the dpi or not, will it degrade the image ect if i increase it ect

seany keep as high res as possible when taking the image, comercial printing tends to be at a higher dpi, i keep all my images at 300dpi, as that is what commercial printing generally is done at, newspapers are circa 150dpi i think

Alternative present, which I have done before, is to buy domain name of child in question (eg. www.jessicasurname.co.uk from www.1and1.co.uk) & then redirect to free slideshow hosting s/w & upload some of your shots for starters. Register in parents names & they can decide on use of site moving forward.

This means the parents can share photos with everyone who has a computer plus the child has a domain name of her own for when she is older.
Just a thought if you want to be different

Cheers Dave/jamie/gray. to be honest there's nothing better then seeing a framed photograph, all too often with digital they dont make of the pc that's something i want to get away from. Though i will burn all the photos i took on to disc if they want to share them...

i agree, nothing like an image that will sit on the mantlepeice looking cute until when shes about 13, when she'll hide it everytime she has friends round. also it will provide excellent ammunition for her mother when she brings her first serious boyfriend home (im currently building up a collection so my mum is fully armed for my little sister!)
