ah but you dont say anything about having to get the dx 18-70 lense to qualify for the £100 cashback. If you only buy the body or body and the 28-80 lense then you only qualify for £50 cashabck

Cashback - beware!

Be careful where you buy your D70. I bought mine from Ebuyer but Nikon claim it's an asian import and not eligible.

take your ebuyer price, go to jessops, get them to price match for you, sorted, either that or just barter, they're good like that

i knocked £250 off the price of my 20D as their price was much higher, excelent customer service and in my case a rediculously attractive girl behind the counter! (always a bonus)

Is there any 'catch' to this?

Do you actually get a cheque for £100 or is it in vouchers or something?

At Jessops it works out at £649 with the 28-80mm lens which seems pretty good although i've heard horror stories about Jessops where they 'test' some new cameras by taking a few thousand photos!

Is there a better offer with the same lens and cashback offer elsewhere?

Cheers

Hi
I posted my cashback claim a few weeks ago with no response so far.
However it's not vouchers- it is a £100 cheque that will be coming.
I paid £719 at 7dayshop for the D70 with DX18-70 lens- so will get a further £100 back.

Body only or other lens only gets £50 back.
cheers

ebuyer are offering the kit for £646 plus £5 delivery, so £651 all in before cashback, making it £551 after.

Jessops Andover couldn't quite match that for me, but did get down to £699.99 all in, so £599.99 after cashback.

EDIT DUE TO BRAIN FADE AND AN INABILITY TO KNOW WHAT I SPENT

Jessops Andover couldn't quite match that for me, but did get down to £680 all in, so £580 after cashback. A useful £115 cheaper than the EOS-350D and a better lens to boot.
I'm a bit confused here because after reading your post I went into Andover Jessops this afternoon and they knew nothing about selling a D70 for £680? There was 4 staff in there and they were all pretty adamant that nobody had got that deal.

They said they did sell one to a guy this morning who wanted a price match with eBuyer for £646, however, after a lot of haggling (apparently the guy told them that Oxford Jessops would sell one for £680) they agreed to sell him one for £699.99, which was the best the price-match manager could do after they rang him up.

Anyway; for those of you interested, the real price that they sold me the D70 kit for was £699.99 - still a great deal (plus the same 9-months interest free like the other guy had) but definitely not £680..... ;-)

you know what, joe public, i am confused too.

you see i work in jessops in andover and i don't remember any of that.

yes we were asked to price match a d70 from ebuyer and we couldn't do it.

after being told OXFORD did it, my collegue phoned and asked and was informed that the only d70 they had sold was for £699, so that was the price we did it for.

the only other d70 we sold yesterday was yours so i am not entirely sure what's gong on there.

maybe i should check our till records and find out if we sold another one when i wasn't looking

I'm going mad - I've just checked my receipt and it was indeed £699.99. I could have sworn it was 679.99 plus a memory card for £70, but it was £699.99 plus a card for £50. Originally the camera was £749, then they offered 719 and eventually 699.

Apologies all for the confusion caused by my dimness, and particularly to Joe Public for sending him in with duff info.

Interesting - Andover Jessops had the D70 with DX kit for advertised at £749.99 yesterday and wouldn't go any lower than the £699.99 mentioned above.

I was in the Basingstoke branch this morning, and the same D70 kit was on display for £699.99. I didn't stop to ask whether they would go lower for a price-match, but it was rather disappointing when the Andover branch has effectively only matched what the Basingstoke one is doing anyway....So has it gone down overnight or is this another example of price discrepancies between Jessops branches?

Crimson, perhaps you could answer that?

hmmmmmm.....i shall have to look into that for you. i'm not sure what's going on there but i shall give a few people a ring round. the only thing i can think of is there is a shop in the local basingstoke area that is doing it for £699 and they have adjusted their price accordingly.

i shall have to check that though and get back to you.

Ah - that might explain it (I'll admit I wasn't aware that Jessops adjusted their prices locally like that, which is fair enough and would explain some regional differences).

Thanks for looking into into it Crimson, it's much appreciated. Apologies once again for giving people the wrong price on my D70 (which, incidentally, is a truly lovely camera).

that's cool. we all make mistakes (i should know )

i know we have adjusted prices for price matching but we don't do it for every deal we do. but i shall definitely ask around for you.

i love the d70 (which we still have in stock ). if only i could win the lottery and then i might be able to afford one

IMPORTANT....For Crimson but EVERYONE PLEASE READ ....

Last Xmas my niece's botfriend bought a Canon EOS 20 digital SLR from Jessops but was horrified to find that some 2,000 photos had been taken with it (there was also a few dead pixels) !!

Jessop's confirmed this and said that it was 'normal policy' for 'testing' purposes. He wasn't having any of it and got a refund. I would have played HELL with them!

First off, i'm not sure how he knew how many photos it had taken (is it logged in the firmware with digital SLRs?)

More importantly is this 'normal policy'?
I wouldn't have thought so and why would they need to take so many photos?

It sounds to me that staff members having been using it for their own 'personal use'. I remember when I worked in Curry's in the early 90s that staff used to 'loan' camcorders for the weekend and longer (back when they were quite expensive) for their own use.

Anyway, this has put me off purchasing anything from Jessops, period (esp the Nikon D70).

Can you shed any light on this?

That's not on - I've had it happen a few times with Argos, but nowhere else.

With kit like cameras I find it fairly obvious if a box has been opened and the kit accessed, and my D70 was spanking new.

Could what happened to your family friend be a case of someone using Jessops' no-quibble 30-day moneyback period? I've often wondered what happens to these cameras.

ok, i checked with my manager today and she said it should no way have had that many photos taken on it.

we do let customers look at the display models and they may take the odd photo, just to see what they come out like (as radiohead will hopefully testify), but i really can't imagine that there should have been anything near 2000 taken on it.

i'm sorry that that's put you off jessops but not every store is as bad as the one your family friend encountered. we are nice really

radiohead, we're not quite sure what was going on with the d70 kit in basingstoke but we're going with the price match reduction

Thanks for checking Crimson - I've been playing with the D70 all weekend and it's fabulous.

One question - do you have the Nikon remote controls for the D70 in stock (£14.99 I think).

After cancelling my order for the 350D due to size and finish issues I rang my local Jessops. They have pricematched Ebuyer on the D70 kit at £655. With cashback £555. Now that's a bargain!
