What is the easiest way to convert all my old photos to the digital format?

I have read a few reviews on the hp scanjet 5530 autofeed scanner,but they seem to jam etc.

Is there another way,other than scanning every photo individually?

Does the speed of scanners differ much? are the expensive ones very much faster?

Any help would be appreciated.

you can get negative scanners, but they're no use unless you've got the negatives!

I used a Canon 9000 scanner. I had hundreds of "old" prints and it took ages. Quality was good though once they were done. The Canon also comes with a slide/negative attachment.

At least the dedicated slide/negative scanner I got will do 4 at a time..

Just ordered a minolta neg/slide scanner for this purpose, seems like a fairly compact machine so can leave it out on desktop and just scan in when time permits instead of doing them all in one go. I can see this getting used extensively (family,friends etc) so only time will tell if this comparitively cheap scanner will last the course but reviews are favorable.

Oh and there is an optional APS adapter available too but at an extra £75

My TAMRACK / JENOPTIK ARTISCAN 2400 FILM SCANNER was just £49 from Ebay...brand new too..

I don't think you should keep it on your desk, as they can suffer from dust.
It is quite hard to clean them out apparently..
