Hi guys

I am strongly considering getting a fisheye lens for my D90

Other than the obvious Nikon 10.5 option, are there any others out there worth looking into?
A few people have mentioned the Samyang 8mm which seems really good value.
However, this I gather doesn't auto meter or auto focus which is the only concern. I know its not crucial but it saves a bit of work at times.

Stick the Samyang at f8, set the focus ring to a couple of feet. Job done!

Have seen the AE ones going for £249 including postage which seems a steal and over half the price of the 10.5

Haven't seen much bad press on them either. Just wondering whether to just go for it or hold out for a second hand Nikon.

Autofocus is next to useless on a fisheye. I stick my Samyang on minimum focus distance and stop it down to f/11.

It's a great bit of glass, and a complete bargain.

I havent read anyone slate it or say "You get what you pay for and buy a Nikon"
Seen some good shots taken with it too which made me consider it over the obvious Nikon choice.

Just was interested to hear feedback. So far from this post and searching around it seems to be more positive towards the Samyang

Well... I have taken the plunge and gone with a Samyang 8mm AE. Look forward to receiving it and having a play

Hopefully doesn't disappoint. Going from what I have read it shouldn't

Good buy - it's a great lens for the money. Just remember to get close to your subject ;-)

The biggest problem is keeping your feet out of the frame.

^^^ Blimey that is mega wide! Some pics I have seen show off the effect more that others.

I remember how my mind was blown a bit when looking through my Sigma 10 - 20 at 10mm having never used a wide angle before.

The closer the horizon is to the centre of the framing, the less the apparent distortion. If you place it right on the centre, you can get an almost perfectly flat horizon.

Nice! That looks really good Going to have to get out and have a good play when I get it. Think it may take a little getting used to at first to achieve the best effect. Fantastic pictures with it though I have to say.
