...then shoot RAW+JPEG and you have the flexibility so do detailed PP/recovery should you need it

Because it is the smallest/best-for-size? Including a decent lens and integrated gps. But mostly limited competition.

Just some of my thoughts.

Thought of that but nothing outstanding hits me in the face for 350 of our English pounds. That's serious money for an almost "point and shoot" compact....

I have to assume it takes outstanding pictures mind...any owners wish to put my mind at rest ?

Very true it's dslr entry level which has performance to match in a small compact body

Had a quick play with one in jessops and was wowed for quick start up, focus and ability to focus at close range

Sorry meant to say dslr entry level price range to above comment - post 30

And performance from what I've seen for a newbie would be close

...in which case I repeat my previous comment/question

I good light the performance is likely to be pretty good - like most compacts but in other situations it will drop off due to the constraints of the much smaller sensor - if that wasn't the case I'd happily get one

Yeah in good light

£350 was more than my first dslr I brought a used Nikon d40.
Then from memory that with kit lens, indoors low lighting without flash it wouldn't cope, although a wicked body in size, function and feel. Would definitely recommend one to those wanting a cheap entry level used option dslr

However back on topic, is it worth the £350. Well if you want one of the best compacts which would fit I small pockets this would be the one

However lx5 and xz1 is suppose to be good, although looking on YouTube clip a few pics showed s100 pics being better. Although surely the f1.8 would / could play advantage

I'm not techie enough to balance all the pro and con but the s100 does have a CMOS sensor with awesome 8/9 frames per second!
