Canon G6 or Sony Cybershot P150

I need some help, my farther is just about to retire and as part of his retirement gift the boss has offered him a Digital camera.

Now the choice is pretty much his but his main issues were it shouldn’t be to bulky and should be simple to use, so I guess he is after a compact to medium compact camera that has plenty of auto options, but have manual adjustment should he feel the need.

Having personally had a Canon A75 for a while with no issues I suggested the G6, but did hear good reviews on the P150.

Any feedback appreciated

http://www.steves-digicams.com/2004_reviews/p150.html review of the P50.
http://www.steves-digicams.com/2004_reviews/g6.html and the G6

If he really wants to get in to the hobbie then the G6 is the camera to buy as its the better featured camera but still has plenty of auto features. If he wants someting to carry round in his pocket for the odd birtday bash and days out then the P150 will suit.

But the G6 is the better camera, take him in to jessops and let him try the two. See what feels best in his hands.

He decided to go with the Sony mainly because it was physically smaller and easier to carry around

I preferred the G6 more a semi pro device

Thanks for all your help

I have a G2 and G3 and really fancy the G6, but given your Dads requirements, then it sounds like he made the right choice.
I hope he enjoys the camera and retirement
