The 'WHERE?' and 'BEST PRICE?' thread....

Thought it might be useful if we shared and pooled our up-to-date knowledge to answer any queries on best price and location of photography related items or services anyone was interested in..............
eg best price and location new or second hand for a certain lens/body/filter/mags/tripod/high st shop etc etc

I'll start.....
I'm looking for a Nikon 16-35mm f4 G AF-S ED VR Lens but any I've seen here or TP second hand is close to new price without warranty so if anyone sees or knows a place selling at a good price please post or PM me, thanks.

Jacobs have listed Canon 100mm f/2.8L macro for £599.
Far cheaper than anywhere else, but for the last 4-5 days has said out of stock.
Stock due in in 10 days apparently. Keep hovering my finger over the button but not sure...

£323.00. Item: 130432179294

Currently 2 bids, UK seller. Stick in your best offer and see what happens. Lens is only 6-7 months old! Check with Knock-on if warranty is transferable. Must be worth a punt Return policy = accepted. Seems like a honourable vendor + 271 trades @ 100%. Maybe send them an email, though I'm not condoning dealing outside of evilBay, but you never know unless you ask (for example). It would save them a bundle on fees. Oh, and click via TopcashBack . . . you'll get 40% of the fees as a rebate should you do the business legit via evilBay.

Not a lot of people know that

I'd be sticking in an off-site offer of £650.00 and see how that goes down, but that's just me. After they've picked themselves up off the floor, you tell them that you're deducting depreciation @ 25% per annum (or part thereof - 6 months) of the nett cost (not including VAT) as VAT is paid by the new buyer as a free gift to the Chancellor. So unless the vendor is VAT registered, then that's 17.5% VAT off say an £850.00 new lens price (£126.56) = nett £723.44 divide by 4 and divide by 2 = £90.43 depreciation @ 25% for the first 6 months = £633.01. Makes £650.00 a fair offer in my book.

Thanks Pirate, never done evilbay before, lets say I offer the next bid of £333 and no-one outbids, what happens then? will it have a reserve price so no-one gets it and bidding is a waste of time? also why advertise it at £500 less than new if he's not going to accept the highest bid?
Might as well advertise Porche 911's for £5k just to get masses of bids

Best thing to do is put your top bid in and leave it. If you're outbid, so be it, else you'll win at whatever the price is at auction close. For high value items I generally use both Buy It Now AND Make An Offer (set a minimum selling price). This is an auction, so chances are vendor is hoping for a couple of idiots to have a bidding war. Just don't get caught in the trap of increasing your top bid just to win. Only gainer is PayPal and evilBay as vendor has to cover fees.

Good luck, you never know, you might just get a deal. Sometimes a seller will deal off-site and close the auction early as long as there's more than 24 hours left to run.

If you want, I'll bid for you and if I win, you pay me back by PP (Gift) or BACS and cover the postage. I've got good evilBay numbers and 100% feedback, so you just give me your top bid price and I'll take it from there and then I'll verify with you so you know what's going on. Just don't leave me with a Nikon lens though

Can't say fairer than that.

If the vendor is a bit resistant should you not have any evilBay feedback etc, let me know. The offer stands

It has a CMOS sensor like a dSLR. £6.00 postage.

If you're after a bridge camera, do yourself a BIG favour . . go and buy this one.

Review.
Yep - APS-C sized sensor too so effectively a 10 Mpix "DSLR-ish" Bridge with 5x Zoom - and is supports RAW+Jpeg shooting too.

Look on Amazon. £300.00. Nuff said This would make for a great backup cam and/or one for 'her indoors' or anyone looking to learn the basics.

£200.00 . . . oh . . . ! I wonder if they'll take an 'offer'.

Seems even @ £700.00 it may have been a good buy, but I don't know about Knock-on prices. Do you think you've missed out?

Nikon users

This shop is well known apparently- they sell 5 times the equipment of any other Nikon seller in the UK and their service is top class. Their new prices are pretty good too, second hand equip is all Mint or nearly mint with 12 mths warranty (2 years on new stuff and 3 years if you subscribe to their Nikon owners magazine)

Just giving a heads up to anyone who doesnt know them or dealt with them, its a real pleasure

Is there any equivalent to this from other manufacturers? ie a DSLR sized sensor with a manual zoom lens?

Just wondered if anyone has seen any worthwhile deals on a nikon d700

Seen a couple on eBay but they look too good to be true so can't risk it

Ahoy!

If I'm right in what's being asked, you're after a bridge camera with a CMOS sensor with manual and auto lens options.

This is the cheapest I have seen of Canon 550d, @ 622.00 inc.:

Canon EOS 550D + EF-S18-55mm 1:3,5-5,6 IS Kit: Amazon.co.uk: Electronics

This company seems to be Germany based. Has anyone bought from them? I wonder if the the Canon will be UK sourced with UK plugs and warranty? Wouldn't want to end up with the manual in German!
