Recommendations for a compact camera

Any suggestions for an easy to use compact camera for son for Christmas, from my experience an optical viewfinder is v useful as lcd screens alone are limited in bright light? I've been looking at Canon Ixus 95 but am open to other suggestions anyone might have.
Thanks

Depends on your budget, but when I was looking for my gf I was recommended the lumix FS62 which is around £120 and has a Leica lens. Its is meant to be one of the best for that budget.

Looks interesting but no optical viewfinder unfortunately.

I never had problem with LCDs during bright conditions and viewfinders in compact cameras aren't that useful.

I beg to disagree, I have had experience with several cameras with only the lcd display and in bright sunlight they are virtually useless. Whilst its true that the viewfinder may not be particularly accurate in viewing area, its better than nothing when its impossible to see the image on a sunlit LCD.
