Lightbulb Canon 1000d shutter speed

Hi, i have just bought a canon 1000d, and was wondering if you can set it to
more than 30 seconds

Yes you can , but you need to put it in bulb mode , check the manual for how to do that , in Bulb mode you can have the shutter open as long as you like.

in bulb mode you can hold your finger on the shutter or you can buy a shutter cable.

a cheap one will lock so you dont have to hold it and a more expensive one can be programed to do multi exposures for specific lengths of time.

You'll need a cable release realy, finger on the shuttre button isnt going to work very well.

Put it in manual, set the aperture as required, then keep turning the shutter speed to slower and past 30"
