Dirt on D90 viewfinder

Got a couple spots of dirt/dust on the view finder, I have removed the lense and they are still there, but I have also taken a few pics of a white wall and some of paper and can not see the marks on the image.

So do I leave it be, or try to clean it off, if i try to clean it, which bit do I need to clean etc

Thanks

Kimbie

Re: Dirt on D90 viewfinder

You can use a cotton wool bud ( after removing the rubber guard for access) and blow off any particles later
It really is annoying TBH

Re: Dirt on D90 viewfinder

It may well be marks on the mirror, or on the internal viewfinder optics in which case avoid using cotton wool as it's a bugger for leaving more crap in there than you started with .

To clean internal marks, get yourself an air blower, take the lens off and hold the body face down. Blow upward into the cavity, across the mirror and up into the viewfinder optics. If you ever need to clean the sensor, it's the same process but put the camera on BULB and activate the shutter.

Re: Dirt on D90 viewfinder

Yeah, little black specks will either be on the mirror or the focussing screen at the top of the mirror chamber.

Air blower will usually shift them. Both the mirror and screen are delicate, so don't attempt to physically remove gunk from them.

To be honest though, as they don't appear in images, I'd suggest you leave them there, particularly if you have no dust on the sensor at the moment. Using a blower in the mirror chamber often just shift specks of stuff from A to B, so you may find you then have a clear viewfinder and dust on the sensor!
