Short answer no, you don't need anything.

I've only ever used microfibre cloths and a glasses cloth. along with quite a lot of sleeves.

As long as it doesn't scratch then it'll be fine. I'd be wary about anything chemically on the lens so I've never used anything but flem!

A huge " micro" ,,wonder what a huge "non micro" would be like.. a Bedsheet?

Seriously you can in fact clean the LCD with various cleaners specifically safe for PC Monitors ect but as advised above avoid the lens as its coating ( anti reflective ect) may not find any chemical friendly
Certainly rain splashes will wet it from time to time but a quick wipe shold be fine
Viewfinders are another and you can usually use a cottonwool bud to clean them if your huge microfibre is to large but cotton wool around cameras is not to be recommended as they can often break up and tiny particles find thier way into its innards

Re: Do i need some sort of liquid for cleaning my lens and lcd display?

That sounds very resnoble Maybe i'll get one of those lcd cleaning liquids for my lcd's, but i wouldn't feel good ordering it from ebay. Just imagining some drunken Chinese guy mixing it up in his basement Who knows what's in thereThis was not a racial remark

So no cotton, and nothing on the lens

I have to say something about the flem. I had something on my lens and the display. Was trying to get it off. Used water, cotton stick, even my huge microfibre cloth, and nothing. I thought it was scratched, but then a sudden twist of events. I used my magic lugy and in a second, like it was never there.

Don't waste your money, just get a good lens/glasses cloth (Opticians) and just use your breath, been using that method for 30yrs and never had a problem, if you need to remove any dust from around the edges just use a small sable paintbrush, and on the LCD just use a damp soft cloth to wipe it and then I use a micro fibre cloth just to 'dry it off' also used this method for the past 5 yrs without any problems.

The " optical lens clothes" you get from the opticians are microfibre albeit finer than what you get from Halfords!..

Seriuosly, all the suggestions are right FWIW

Yeah, i know. I'm just horsing around. I'll just steal my sisters opt. cloth. Don't like waiting for the ebay 3 week delivery from Hong Kong.
I kinda like that little like blower. Don't know the english word for it. Looks like an old bike horn. You press it = air comes out, but instead of sound, you have a narrow exit hole, so there is a lot of pressure. Good for removing dust from the lens, and looking like you know what you're doing

And don't forget, if your lens can take one, put a filter on it.

Filters are relatively cheap though and can save a lens surface from all manner of spots ect and even break in the event of a fall.
I dropped a film SLR once and the filter was what saved the lens from certain damage as it dropped lens first to the concrete
but
I dont have one now as there is the argument that the relatively innocuous UV filters can degrade optical quality ( especially the really cheap and not cheerful ones) and also increase the chances of flare
As such some folk use a hood instead
And some remove the filter , then replace it
My take is that there is no absolute do or don't in all this . Folk are just saying what works for them .. clearly you will get lots of differing advice
Take what you want and simply stay in blissful ignorance of the rest...
