D300 firmware update problem

Im trying to update the firmware but its not letting me copy the firmware files over to the camera. I dont have a card reader so cant do it that way.

On the website it says

3. Connect the camera to the computer (in MSC Mass Storage USB mode) or use a memory card reader.
4. Copy only one of the downloaded files "A3000110.bin" (A firmware) or "B3000110.bin" (B firmware) to the top level of the memory card. Do not copy both files to the card at the same time.

Is there something different you have to do for 3.

I just connected the usb cable and turned the camera on, browse to the card folder and try to drop the firmware file into it but it wont let me, looks like its write only.

What am i missing?

*edit. scratch that, i did have a card reader on the pc and never noticed the slots before it worked that way. any reason why i couldnt write to the camera through the usb cable though?

Re: D300 firmware update problem

You just have to set the "USB" to mass storage in the setup menu. Glad you sorted it though.
