problem using Nero wizard..........help plse

This is an interesting problem my brother encountered, Using Nero 6 ( wizard ) to capture from a new Canon videocam, then burn to cd ( vcd ) we found that although the system went through all the normal stages, when the the disk burning was finished there was nothing on the disk at all ( we checked using the standard xp/ my computer etc...............nothing !) even more weird, was that on inspection of the disk it was obvious that something had been burnt ( from the center out )

The PC is a fast 2.8 running xp home, nero 6 is the full retail version and the dvd ( burning drive ) is an NEC 1100a.

Anybody seen this before ??

many thanks
