Question Freelance Photography

I want to get started as a freelance photographer, but im not sure how to. Ive read about sending stockpiles of photos off to newspapers, and magazines, but not sure what to include.

Should they be presented in a portfolio folder, or simply included in the envelope with enough protection so they aren't damaged?

Also, what terms do i need to outline in my first letter? should i state a price for using my photos or will they have a set fee?

Thanks for any help.

Hi - Im interested in something similar and have booked a one day course with a guy called Graham Reading. He's a press photographer and currently runs a one day course at £165, covering pretty much every element you need to know. Cant comment on it to any great extent as I ve yet to go on the course, however you could drop him a line at graham@grahamreading.com or visit his website on www.grahamreading.com
hope this helps!
