1.7x teleconverter for Nikon 18-200VR

Hi, I have the 18-200 VR Nikon lens and am very happy with it. It's just a little short for some of the motorsport shots I like to do.

Is there a 1.7x converter that will fit this lens? Any makes I should look out for? Will the VR work? lens is max 5.6 so what would it be with converter fitted?

If it works at all, the AF at the long end will be pretty ropey I'd guess

yes - thats a worry. has anyone tried the 18-200 vr with a converter?

"Ryanyboy" has posted a few shots in the past using one of these teleconverters with the Nikkor 70-200 2.8 and it looked pretty good to my eyes. I'm guessing buying a new lens like the 70-300mm VR will still leave you with the same problem for motosport coming up a bit short.

Yes - 300mm still a bit short. Am now considering the Sigma 150-500OS too.

worth having a look on fredmiranda.com the reviews don't seem bad for that sigma lens you mentioned.

I'd say that it would probably work to a low standard - I imagine the teleconverters are really only usable to a satisfactory standard using long prime lenses and 2.8 zooms.
