Anyone use teleconverters?

Sorry if i'm being a bit dim but a newly acquired kenko 1.5x tc is confusing me.

i know this costs 1 stop of light but when i fit to a 35-135 lens on my 30d, it causes the camera to overexpose. if i dial in -1.0 to -1.3 stops exposure compensation, its about right. this is the opposite of what i expected.

i expected the metering to cause underexposure, why isnt this the case?

Yes, a 1.4/1.5x TC will lose 1 stop of light, but that aside, underexposing will increase shutter speed, so shouldn't over expose.

What mode is your camera set at and what metering is it set to?

Try A mode and matrix metering with spot focus. A TC generally reduces AF speed.

Re: Anyone use teleconverters?

thanks for that. i suspect a mis communication between lens and body thru the tc. i am set for some experimenting. yes, af is a little slower especially in low light.
