Tamron 18-270mm any good?

I'm getting a bit sick of walking about with a big bag full of lenses. A single lens with the range of the Tamron 18-270mm is looking increasingly attractive. But is the image quality much good? It seems a bit too good to be true if I can replace my 17-50mm and 70-200mm (and probaly my Sigma 10-20mm EX) with a single lens and never have to change again.

This lens was reviewed last week in Amatuer Photographer against the Canon EF-S 18-200 and it came out on top. Both excellent lenses with the 18-270 getting 91% in the review. Make of that what you will.

Re: Tamron 18-270mm any good?

If a heavy bag and swapping lenses is doing your nut in that much, then maybe it's for you, but there's no way I'd be getting rid of a 17-50 2.8 and a 70-200 (f4 or f2.8) to use a 18-270. If I could afford to have one aswell, maybe, but not instead. The image quality will likely not be as good and if nowt else, you're losing a fair amount of maximum aperture.
As for it replacing your 10-20 as well, I assume that's just cause you're not using it?
Horses for courses though. No point in having 2-3 good lenses if the logistics of using them is actually stopping you going out and taking photos.

Re: Tamron 18-270mm any good?

Nah, I'm just being lazy really. I love the Sigma 10-20mm for landscapes but rarely use it at 10mm. I thought a lens with that amazing 18-270mm range couldn't be that good or everyone would be using them. It would be nice as a walkaround but not for £400.
