newbie in need of help ......please

Hi all,

Im after a little help - the basics really

I have a Kodak z740 Zoom camera so its essentially a point and shoot digi but it does have the ability to go into manual mode and set certain stuff such as shutter speed, exposure time, ISO speed etc.

I rarely use the manual mode but would like to learn to - So err, can anyone point me in the right direction and explain the basics please

Dave

Grab yourself the book Understanding Exposure: How to Shoot Great Photographs with a Film or Digital Camera: Amazon.co.uk: Bryan Peterson: Books

It is a very very good starting tool. It will teach you the basics of all things you mention above. Im not sure there is anyone who hasnt read it.

Try A (aperture priority) you adjust aperture, camera adjusts shutter speed, set ISO to the lowest setting. Generally OK for non-moving subjects. S (shutter priority) for fast moving subjects, you adjust shutter speed, camera adjusts aperture. M (manual mode) you adjust everything.

Try A or S first.

Wiki might be a good place to start.

The book is brilliant and will give you a real knowledge of how ISO, aperture and shutter speed all work together.
Get it, read and and then go out into the field and try it for yourself. Its only £9 for gods sake, if you get into photography then £9 is going to seem like nothing (well if you buy the right stuff !!!!)
