Dust in New Lens - Advice Please

Hi All

I just received my replacement Sigma 10-20 from the dealer (first one had finger mark smudge on inside of front element and was sent back for exchange!)

The replacement lens has 4 small specks of dust inside the front element, the first one didn't.

None of my other lenses (Nikkor 18-200VR, Nikkor 50mm F1.8 & Sigma 70-300APO) have any dust specks inside and they are regularly used.

I am worried this lens was maybe a Sigma return, as the dealer had to re-order the replacement from Sigma and the serial number is older than the first lens I bought: new lens 2267** vs original lens 2274**

This maybe minor stuff guys, but its my most expensive lens so far and I want it to be right!

Thanks in advance

You'll never see it in your images, but if you're not happy then i would suggest asking for another lens, as in the long run it'll will probably always bug you.

It's like a ghost in the machine you gotta exorcise it.. Or get a blower brush and give it a good blowin'.

If its inside the front element no amount of blowing is going to get rid of the dust. I would return it.

Re: Dust in New Lens - Advice Please

Return it, no dust inside is acceptable imo

I recently purchased 2 used lenses both were only 7 weeks old and barely used. the seller pointed out one had 2 specks of dust inside and the other a couple more, I rang the importer to check on the warranty situation regarding dust and they said it is not acceptable in the warranty period for them to have dust inside and they would clean them under warranty FOC.
It took around 3 weeks as they had to go via Warehouse Express but they came back spotless

That was Tamron btw so don't know what Sigma's policy on dust is but if I was you I would just return to your dealer for another replacement or your money back.
