Re: 50d

Nice one. Contemplating one for later this year myself, even though I know it's just an itch I need to stratch

As for cheap batteries, i've had 450d batteries from this guy before and they were fine: -

2 PACK 1300 mAh BATTERY for CANON BP-511 BP-511A BP-512 on eBay, also, For Canon, Digital Camera Batteries, Photography (end time 12-Jun-09 21:42:54 BST)

2 for £12.50 delivered. Can't be bad.

Re: 50d

Just remembered I'll be needing a new remote now, obviously the 400D connection is different to this one. Any pointers to a reliable one?

Try [HERE]

It sucks not having IR or similar on the 50D - I also have an RC-1 in my cellar that I used to use on the 450D...

P.S Welcome to the 50D club!

Re: 50d

Think I'll go for the Cleon wireless instead, had a few issues with the cheap ones above, heard good reviews of the Cleon from people with a 50D, so think I'll give that a go.

Good choice - I have the wireless triggers from the same company and no complaints...

That's who I got my Cleon from and I think a good few others too. Had no problems at all.

Re: 50d

50D Owners...

Just a question on what settings you think gives the best IQ?
Settings like -

High ISO speed noise reduction (does this make a huge difference?)

AFmicro adjust ?

High ISO speed noise reduction?

Peripheral Illumin Correct?

Live view functions = Expo Simulation?

C.Fn I :Exposure ISO expansion (Off or On?)

High ISO speed noise reduction = Standard? Low? Strong? or Disable?

Picture style?

I've already disabled the 2 main settings in which a lot has been talked about and thought to be associated with noise - Highlight Tone Priority is set to Disable & Auto Light Optimizer is set to Disable.

What settings do you use?

TIA

Re: 50d

I'm no pro but these are my settings as per request..

Quote:
High ISO speed noise reduction (does this make a huge difference?)
I have mine disabled - But when enabled it comes in to effect with ISO settings over 800 - But you loose some sharpness due to the reduction so I leave it off becuase noise reduction can be done in PP...

Quote:
AFmicro adjust ?
Should be set to Disabled, unless you think your AF is focusing long or short then this can be adjusted under (2) - Advice leave it on Disabled unless you notice AF poor focusing..

Quote:
High ISO speed noise reduction?
As per default - Disabled

Quote:
Peripheral Illumin Correct?
Mine is set to Enabled (Default)

Quote:
Live view functions = Expo Simulation?
Expo Simulation is set to disabled (Default)

Quote:
C.Fn I :Exposure ISO expansion (Off or On?)
Mine is set to on (Default)

Quote:
Picture style?
I use Standard

As to your last question
