I got my first gig!

This saturday there's some community stuff going on organised by the local authority (kids making hanging baskets since it's time to hang them out on the streets) and met a bloke in a pub (as you do) who's part of the organisation team and got chatting and he's asked me to come along and take some photos for the council website and community newsletters... !

Unpaid this time - but he says if it works out there may be a few quid (low '10's' not megabucks) in it for future stuff...

1st - Hooray me(!)

2nd - any tips? things watch out for?

3rd - Anyone got any links to those handy forms like permission release forms, works for hire, copyright etc... that sort of thing?

Cheers,

Nelson.

Congratulations
I'd ask the organisers if they can include your website address on the printed document, it might lead to extra work in the future.
At the very least make sure you get your name on the document.

For model release forms, I'd just use a search engine to find a downloadable copy, most UK photo magazines have there own version, which you can download for free.

Re: I got my first gig!

Here's the update from 'my first gig'... it was great to have a brief and almost free reign to point the camera in places you wouldn't normally necessarily do so with strangers(!) so I had a good time and got to try out some things for the first time...

The brief was to get around a dozen photos that told the story of the day - people came along with their old hanging baskets, filled a few forms in, and then potted up a new one and went home and hung it up(!) simple enough. Half way through a pro-photography showed up to take photos for the local paper, so had a nice chat with him (and ogled his very nice kit !).

Everyone was very friendly, i made sure I asked permission first, and the people filling the forms in notified them that there was a photographer. A few people then asked me not to take photos which is all fair enough.

So - here's the photos of 'the story'

and here's a few others I liked in general too.

All in all, a great day out. There was one strange thing which I didn't expect - no one seemed interested in seeing the photos... that was weird, since all my photos are typically taken to specifically show someone (mostly you guys!) - and even once they end up in their final resting place, i don't think i'll hear any more about them. Not that I mind, but something I didn't expect. However, assuming they like the shots, i'll get asked along to the next thing and we'll see how things progress.

Thanks for looking(!)

Nelson.
