800mm f8 for £300?

LCE are advertising two new lenses.

- a 500mm f5.6 for £199
- a 800mm f8 for £299.

Availalble in most fitments.

These are 'samyang' mirror lenses, and are painted white so they have a canon 'l' look about them (although they are very stubby and wide)

Anyone used one of these - are they absolute rubbish, or a reasonable way into long focal lengths on a budget?

Re: 800mm f8 for £300?

Just google samyang mirror lens

I'd stay well away to be honest

Also you can get the 500mm for £89 from evilbay and the 800mm for £200

Re: 800mm f8 for £300?

Do they have the samyang 85mm f1.4?
That is supposed to be an excellent lens for the money.

Re: 800mm f8 for £300?

I looked on flickr for examples and couldn't find much. However, I believe this is the same lens also sold under the "Rokinon" brand name and there are some example shots from that.

IMHO I'd stick with a good budget telephoto lens and crop the photo
