Best Compact ?

Hi

I have a D200 and various lenses which I use a lot but sometimes I just dont want to carry all that kit about.

Last time I bought a compact digital camera was around 2004 and I bought an Ixus ( cant even remember what model ) but I found it was not for me, I did'nt like the motion blur I was getting, it was awful in low light and I was missing a lot of action by taking something like 1 picture a second and thats when I bought my first DSLR.

I am sure they have come on a bit and would like something with decent PQ, a couple of frames per second if possible but will be goood in low light or at least will deal with motion blur in some way.

budget is up to around £300 -£350 MAX

Thanks

Re: Best Compact ?

Exactly - currently LX3 or G10 are top of the tree. It's possible that there may be something new at PMA in March, but they usually get announced before, and I've not seen anything to match those from the offerings revealed so far.

I plumped for an LX3 because i) it's smaller and easier to carry than the G10; ii) the Leica lens is fast (f/2.0-f/2.8) and of excellent quality; and iii) it has far better high ISO noise characteristics than the G10. G10 has longer reach, and more MP, so you need to work out which of those things is more important for you.
