What model is replacing the Panasonic DMC-FZ28

I went into Jessops today to ask about the Panasonic DMC-FZ28 camera, and was told it has been discontinued and that a new range is being launched very soon.

Does anybody know what model will replace the FZ28? I have read lots of very positive reviews about the FZ28, so I would be very interested to know what improvements the new model has.

As far as I am aware, the FZ28 is not being discontinued yet, maybe later in the year, but there has been no announcement for a replacement.

Re: What model is replacing the Panasonic DMC-FZ28

I too am hoping there'll be a replacement pretty soon - since the previous version was the fz18, then this - the fz28 - my guess would be it's to be called the fz38.
I occasionally search for fz38 to see if anything has cropped up but so far nothing.

If anyone finds out anything, can they post it here?

Hopefully an fz38 would be:

AVCHD video and hopefully a brighter lens.
I HOPE they don't extend the zoom - 18x is plenty for pretty much everything.

I also hope they don't cram more megapixels in, though inevitably they will I'm sure :-/

Less AF hunting in low light and perhaps a higher-res viewfinder please!
+ the usual stuff: Less noise, lower lowest iso (64/80?) etc.

Both the 18 and 28 were announced in July the last two years so we'll hopefully hear something then.

There's nothing on the rumour mill at present about the FZ28.

Re: What model is replacing the Panasonic DMC-FZ28

Every major retailer states that the model is discontinued, but I got an email from Panasonic today which states that it is just currently sold out.
They know nothing about a new model and the phone support is terrible (30min wait) just to find out that they don't know anything.
I can't believe that they are handling this in this manner. Currently they are rated by most as the #1 super zoom camera and they have to be loosing customers because you can't buy their product and they don't bother to inform the customer as to what is going on. Very poor marketing on their part. I guess it might be time to buy the second best super zoom.

Re: What model is replacing the Panasonic DMC-FZ28

It wouldn't surprise me if they drop the "Superzoom" line and concentrate more on the G1 line and their more pocketable compacts.

Re: What model is replacing the Panasonic DMC-FZ28

I am hoping the current 25% off code for Panasonic eShop will still be working.

Re: What model is replacing the Panasonic DMC-FZ28

I was looking at buying the model currently out now (Same as you G@zza@)

But am i better off waiting for the new one?

Also is this camera capable of taking pictures at an Airshow? Or do i need to look for a completly different camera?

Just the camera i have at the moment (Fuji S5800) has a 10X optical zoom and my airshow pictures are "OK" but want something a bit better , But been told to go for a Panasonic and this one does have a better zoom and it's a much better camera all around

Re: What model is replacing the Panasonic DMC-FZ28

As I had only received my FZ28 today, but found out about the FZ38 last night, I decided I might as well have latest one seeing as its out soon.

If I had opened it and started using it then it would have been unlucky for me.

For me its about having the latest model with the slight upgrade in features, as it will be in iA mode most fo the time with me (which has received a few tweaks).
