Canon EOS-1000D DSLR Camera with EF-S18-55mm Lens £258.33

hey, i have been looking for a DSLR for a while now and happend across this forum. At current i only have a point and shoot compact camera (ricoh caplio r7). I have been reading about on here etc and decided i liked the look of the canon EOS 450D however the price is a bit above my limits seeing as im only 18 and still at college. I can however get through work a Canon EOS 1000d with EF-S18-55mm Lens for £258.33. This is with staff discount and cashback. What i want to know is, is this deal any good? I want to take alot of landscape photos of things like beaches etc as i travel alot but also of aircraft as i live basically next to a base. What do you guys think?

Is that Canon cashback? If so I thought the Canon cashback deal ended in mid Jan.

I'd say that's a pretty good price, particularly given Canon's recent price rises.
I got mine just before christmas from tesco for £289 and I'm awaiting the £30 cashback.

So far I love the camera. It's my first DSLR so I don't have another to compare it to.
I would have preferred a 450D, but the extra features you get didn't justify my pushing my budget at the time.

the kit lens is fine imo as a walkabout lens , general use etc , i have also got the 55-250 IS as well and is deffo a good idea for stuff like birds / sports etc , i am more than happy with the 1000d as a first dslr

Me too.
Only just got the 55-250 and haven't had much chance to use it yet.
I'm also probably going to get the 50mm f1.8 for better low light shots
