Canon 1000D, worth buying?

As the title says really, i been offered one at a very very good price with a 18-55m lense.
I do a lot of wildlife photography and upto now have been using a fuji S9500 all in one jobby but want to upgrade.
Any one use this canon for wildlife stuff?

Worth looking at some reviews to see how it shapes up the ISO front, due to the poor quality of light in this country you tend to have to boost this a bit most of the time to get a half decent shutter speed for wildlife.

Lens wise I'd budget for getting some form of 70-300 lens minimum for wildlife and if you can afford it probably best of with the canon image stablilised one which comes in handy certainly at the upper reaches.

Thanks people, already done some sites i found on google but was hoping to hear from people who have used it over a longer period and perticuly with wildlife. Most of my stuff tends to be bugs or reptiles and the fuji has been good so fare but i feel i know need more.

Bugs your really looking at some form of macro lens I feel ideally one that will focus 1:1. Have a search in here for threads by allie c.

Like the duck pic paul, started to get more into birds over last few years. Seeing a lot of more unusal stuff in essex of late.
With the price ive been offered and what ive read so fare i think i shall go for it, looks like yet another expensive hobby comes my way. The mrs will kill me

I bought my Canon EOS 1000D From amazon.co.uk 3 months ago before the price rise for a very humble £328.00 with Free 24hr Delivery (with Prime Membership), it came with 18-55mm I.S KIT Lens.

Now the price has rose on amazon to close to £390 or not far away, at this price in my opinion its still worth what you get considering the image stabilizing technology, digic 3 proccessor, superb kit lens, a host of free canon RAW proccessing software, (with LIVE VIEW), beautiful to hold, really comfortable especially with the opitional eye piece extender (for those who need spectecales).

I cannot praise this EOS 1000D highly enough, the pictures it takes in low light conditions without flash are impressive. Even at ISO 800-1600 The noise is not noticeable at all, not unless you open the image away up 100% on a 24" monitor then you may see a few light traces of grain at ISO 1600, However it looks natural like film grain, NO reduction in image quality at all.

At normal 5x7 prints, I ask you to notice any noise or grain, at the Canon 1000D 18-55mm ISO 1600 LENS wide open lowlight shot, thats why Im so pleased with my purchase, from 2002 when I first started digital photography this type of technology was really unheard of, however now in 2009 DSLR Has become affordable to everyone who wants to take it up as a hobbie.

Cant give a review as yet as its my 1st slr camera.

Same here, but I'm loving the pictures I've got so far!

Going to get myself another lens, but having trouble choosing which at the moment.
Still, that's a question for another topic

Well i got it and first impressions are a mix or wow and dam what a learning curve im now on

Roll on next week, think its first proper play will be either colchester or london zoo
