Sony A300 delayed - A350 instead?

Jessops have not advised when they can fulfil my order for the A300.

I notice from another thread (thanks Ryanyboy) that Warehouse Express have (albeit low stock) it at only £50 more than Jessops for the A300.

Is it worth the extra?

Are Warehouse Express OK?

I have read about noise from the additional pixels on the A350 but don't really understand what's meant by noise. Can anyone explain to a dullard please?

Many thanks

Re: Sony A300 delayed - A350 instead?

as a newbie to dslr - so might not be right, for me i think of noise as grains in a picture.

think of an analogue tv with dodgy signal compared to digital, you get not so smooth quality picture.

some one will probably shoot me down in flames lol.

think noise on the a350, is only on higher ISO settings

Re: Sony A300 delayed - A350 instead?

Thanks P1tse.

I think I understand noise to be the graininess. If this is only an issue at higher ISOs then it shouldn't be an problem as I am unlikely to go very high to begin with.

As to Warehouse Express, dug around a little and found the feedback to be very good.

As to the decision. Too bad.

Just spoken to them and they're out of stock.

Interesting to note that there's enormous demand from mainland Europe due to the weakness of sterling and very little stock of anything anywhere.

Thanks Mssrs Darling and Brown!

Re: Sony A300 delayed - A350 instead?

I'm not in the UK but in Germany, it was only 2 days ago I was in my local camera shop playing around with a Sonly Alpha 350, my main interest is the tilting live view. I hope in the next few days I can too pick one up for myself.

Have you looked on Amazon?

Re: Sony A300 delayed - A350 instead?

After owning an A100 for over a year I'd go for the A300. You may think that high ISO noise won't be a problem but trust me, it will.

The A100 is not good at all over ISO400 so if the the A350 is worse you'll kick yourself every time you get less than good light. It does limit what you can do so my advice would be to hang fire for the A300 to come in stock or if liveview isn't that important then go for the A200 and save a fortune.

Re: Sony A300 delayed - A350 instead?

Hi I have a Sony A350 and have taken quite a few photos at ISO 800 in less than perfect light and for me they turned out very well, I have had my A350 for over a month now and i love it. The A300 is a bit faster than the A350 at 3pfs but im not sure at this level you will notice that at all. my approach to this is if i really like DSLR photography then i will upgrade to an A700 ( or one of the new A series coming out later this year ) and keep my lenses so what ever i invest in now should be ok on my next Sony Body.

Re: Sony A300 delayed - A350 instead?

All academic really as the A300 arrived at 7.25 this morning despite tracking the order on Jessops website yesterday evening to see it had still not been dispatched!

However, battery on charge, off to play some golf and will experiment when I get home.

Looks like being a fun day
