Thanks: Gave 35, Got 21 | Why no new year sales?
I've been on the lookout for a Nikon D60 kit (or possibly D40), or Canon 1000d. I'm amazed though that there don't seem to be any sales anywhere. OK so the manufacturers are offering cashbacks for some items, but aren't any of the bigger retailers, like Jessops, having any sales? Or is it a consequence of the falling pound that prices have already bottomed?

Because the margins are small and all of the big guns (canon, nikon, sony, hama, hahnel etc) are putting prices up by 10/15% in Jan so they need to make hay now.

Given the pound has sunk 40% against the yen this year, we will be lucky if prices are only rising 10-15% (probably because the current UK prices were overpriced to start with, so part of the 40% is absorbed in that)

Thanks | With the D90 replacing the D80 maybe they can't get any more...

I'm still a bit disappointed that the modest xmas offers at Jessops haven't extended for a short while into the new year. They're not even offering a cheapo camera bag or lens cloth with SLRs.

Just looked on that CameraBuster site, very useful but the stuff I am after I found cheaper on fotoSENSE Home page - Digital Camera Accessory Stockists and they were not in CameraBuster.
Might be worth a shot too?

There's a rumour on Camera Labs that Nikon prices go up on 12th January. |

I guess 'evidence' that prices rises are perhaps inevitable, is if you look at the hong-kong based retailers like Digital Rev and One Stop Digital, that have frequently been used by avforum members in the past.
They are all now substantially more expensive than buying in the UK |

Spoke to a few retailers yesterday as I'm after a D90, no one seems to have any in stock (not at the price I wanted to pay anyway)
Most of them say there is a price rise next week when their new stock arrive.
Some say 10%, one said 12% another said 20%! One shop wouldn't even give me a price as he has no idea what the price increase was going to be.
