canon or tamron

hi all , just got a canon 1000d and already i am thinking of a telephoto lens , so , if someone would care to take a look here can you help me decide whether it is worth spending double the money for the canon lens over the tamron one

Re: canon or tamron

I checked on fredmiranda and couldn't find reviews for either but I would suggest that it would be worth saving your pennies and going for the Canon 55-250mm zoom

Re: canon or tamron

I can't comment from experience on either of your options, nor have I read much about them. There's a review of the Canon here. In short, it seems to be acceptable optically, but poorly made and low on features. With regard the Tamron, TBH it seems hard to believe a lens for that money wouldn't show every bit of its budget price.
The tele lenses that get recommended here (and elsewhere) most often are the Sigma 70-300 APO and the Canon 55-250 IS, both of which are some way above the price of your current considerations.

Re: canon or tamron

thanks , i am of the camp that you only get what you pay for , just wondered if the cheaper make was worth going for , it seems as though it may well be false economy and that is fine by me , will have a look at the canon mentioned above , thanks
