aspect ratio

hope this is the right place for this...
my fuji camera shoots in 4:3 aspect ratio( i think) but i have bought a phillips digi photo frame that has an aspect ration of 3:2,afraid i know next to nothing about these things and tend to learn from my mistakes. is there any way i can change aspect of my pictures to fit properley onto the frame.i have tried resizing but they appear stretched.
any help???????????????

Don't resize the image, crop it by a 3:2 ratio in whatever software package your comfortable with. Use the recommended resolution of the frame as your crop size if you are in any doubt.

Resizing will stretch the image to fit the new size whilst cropping will keep the ratios intact but alter the physical dimension to fit your frame (think of it like trimming either the top or sides off a regular photo to fit a traditional frame). You will lose some content from around the edge which might be an issue but can't be avoided I'm afraid.

The best advice I can give is to buy a 4:3 frame but these tend to be more expensive (Sony, etc).

thanks for the quick response,things seem a bit clearer now , i going to give the software you mentioned a go.the only reason i bought this particular frame was because the missus liked the surround,dumb i know but anything for a quiet life.......

Gedo is right, the best approach is to crop to the 3:2 ratio and you will have to trim off some of the picture. IRFANVIEW is a very good, free appplication that can do this as well as many other things. You can download it from here - IrfanView - Official Homepage - one of the most popular viewers worldwide.

Faststone Image Viewer is the easiest program I've used for cropping (and viewing) images. Irfanview is also good but the interface isn't quite as helpful in my experience. Picasa is usually also good and very easy to use but doesn't seem to have a default 3:2 crop option so I can't recommend it for this purpose.

Picasa will do a 3 x 2 crop as a default option, it's just been labeled 15 x 10 to confuse people!

cheers again ,i`m now sorted .luckily the crops havn`t ruined any pics.one last dumb question.the picture quality hasn`t been diminished has it??.or is the much smaller size of all the files on my memory card now just down to the cropped size of the images?.

Every time to edit and resave a jpg file you do suffer a loss of quality, as to whether or not is noticable will depend on the amount of compression you use. The fact that you are asking the question would indicate any losses here are not noticable, so don't worry.

In addition to all the good advice given, when saving use the "save as" option. That way your original file will stay unaltered and you will also get a cropped file for your frame. Handy if you want the uncropped picture later for something else.
