Re: Las Vegas & Valley of Fire Gallery (D700)

Brilliant work yet again. Hard to pick a favourite as they are all great shots, but I do like 188 (Bellagio fountains with Paris in the background) and I am envious of the way in which you have managed to get the exposure right on the daytime shots where some of the rocks are in bright sunlight, but others are in the shade.

Funny but me and the missus were discussing going back to Vegas this morning and I was thinking how much I want to get back to the desert but with my D300 this time.

Thanks for posting.

Thank you Sir
I set my camera to 0 Contrast, so I've have greater flexibility when I process.
So that allows me to keep bright and dark elements.

Get yourself to Vegas
I usually stay off Strip and get the Monorail to the Strip.
I prefer to park my car directly outside my room, instead of walking 1/4 mile from the parking lot to hotel room

Sorry my mistake, it should have been 2008.
I was in no way testing the camera in 2007 for Nikon, honest
(Original posted now showing correct date)

I know what you mean. On my last trip I stayed at the JW Marriott which is about a 20 minute drive from the Strip. Very nice place away from the crowds.

I stayed at this hotel "The Boardwalk" in 2005 (Pic Below taken from Hotel Room)

only about £40 a night probably one of the last bargain hotels which was obviously to cheap as they decided to bulldoze it (link below)

Anyway sorry for polluting your thread "SomeBloke" with my Vegas image, great post very enjoyable had a good look through all the D700 images. My favourites are the venetian pics although they are all exceptional

Palm Springs / Rancho Mirage / Joshua Tree is a great area to go if you like the desert area. Awesome place, about 4hrs south of Vegas.

Re: Las Vegas & Valley of Fire Gallery (D700)

Thank you all for your comments.
I've no problem with anyone adding their own Vegas photos, please add more

For the record I usually stay at Best Western Mardi Gras on Paradise Road.
Best Western Mardi Gras Hotel & Casino - Hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada
It's about a 5 min walk to the Convention Centre Monorail stop.
You can either stay on the "outside ring" of the building as shown on the website photo or on the "inside ring" and be close to the pool and gardens.

As per usual, most hotel/motels in Vegas are cheaper if you stay mid week.
Places to visit "near" Las Vegas: Death Valley, Zion.

If you're touring around the U.S. check out Gas Stations and Fast Food Restaurants for hotel voucher magazines.
They list towns/cities within each States where if you present that coupon for a certain hotel/motel on check in you'll get a massively reduced rate.
I've saved loads over the years, sometimes £30 per night saving off the standard or Expedia rates.
One of the magazines is called "Room Saver" Hotel Rooms & Free Discount Hotel Coupons - RoomSaver.com
You can use the above website to get the coupon and print it out when you're over there or just show the hotel receptionist your Laptop screen showing the coupon.
