Raw?

Ok Guys dont laugh.

Just getting to grips with my new Canon 450D.

I have taken some shots in Raw, and had a look at them Via the Canon software that comes with the camera.

However once I have converted the pics to JPEG from RAW (so I can mail them to my friends etc) they seem to lose some quality.

Just wondering, if I can view them in RAW with the software and want my friends to see them in Raw, I supose they need some kind of RAW viewing software rather than Windows Picture & Fax Viewer??

Can't say for canon but I downloaded a plugin from nikon to views RAW(NEF) files in windows.
Had a look, something like this maybe???

You could experiment with setting the camera up to capture JPEG & Raw at the same time.

Converting to jpeg shouldn't really degrade the image that much in my experience, I find the biggest problem is that you take the original Raw and don't apply sufficient sharpening in post processing.

I don't know which application you used for the conversion but most offer you levels of quality (and therefore size) of the final jpg. Maybe you were just a bit keen on getting a small file size?

Not unless it supports the 450D though.. However sending RAW files is not generally a god idea as they are large and the end view cannot manipilate them unless they have Lightroom or DPP as well

The DPP software that come with the 450D ( and all Canon DSLRs) is perfect for it
The RAW files are high quality big files uncompressed
The ability to turn them to minimally compressed jpegs reqiure

• The fact that even as Jpegs the file will be too big to email

If The Op want to send RAW files to his freind fro preview ( not a good idea) . Cam 2 PC will open them

Raw files are uncompressed and with a little skill, the compressed Jpeg ones will look great]If space is not an Issue
Convert then to TiFFs ( which are also large but dot need RAW viewing software)

Hi guys and thanks for the reply's.

Trust me the Conversion from Raw to Jpeg still gives me stunning results, I was just curious as to how friends could view them in there Raw state.
