My First Shoot
Went out today for the first time with my Canon 450d, I am a complete novice so I did not know what I was doing but kept on changing the settings on the camera.
Got lots of photos so just picked out what I think were the best, will be interesting to know what you all think, go easy on me you don't want to spoil my enthusiasm

Re: My First Shoot
Hi Tonkie
Looks a great place for photography.....your sig suggests Guernsy, yes ?
Of the four the third one along has potential...maybe a couple of steps to the left (or a crop) to take out the lifesaver ring and sign (a slight distraction).
All in all a good effort....keep going, and post more of your efforts !!

Re: My First Shoot
#2 does it most for me. Like the sweeping curve of the bay and the sunlight on the foreground. The waterfall one and view down the lane have suffered a little from the high contrast between the subject and the sky so the brightest part has been blown a little. Not much you can do about it to be honest. Are these JPEGs straight out of the camera? Even though shooting RAW and post processing (PP) on the computer seems a bit daunting or advanced, it's worth getting into ASAP. RAW can help bring a bit of detail out of the bright scenes albeit at the expense of the darker bits. And vice versa. Just a bit more versatile format for adjustments. Can help alot, especially when still getting to grips with things. . It constantly bugs me that I wasn't shooting RAW in the beginning as some of the shots I'm not so happy with from the early days could have been rescued a bit more if they had been RAW and not JPEG (though it never stops being useful/necessary ).
Also I'd say they are a bit off straight. I find it a real pain that DPP doesn't do straightening, so I use Picasa for that.
Keep posting.

Yes straight out of the camera, getting to grips with the camera is more than enough for now but as time goes who knows

Re: My First Shoot
Number 2 is the best of bunch, but I like number 5 as well. I have to agree with James about them needing a little PP to give them a bit more impact and straightening. Shooting RAW is worth the effort and extra disc space.

Re: My First Shoot
I like the second and the last one - the last in particular appeals to me as I like that type of shot a lot. Lovely light on the water.
