Lumix G1 - new path for DSLR

I saw this at a JL store today - the staff were very enthusiastic about performance, convenenience etc.

http://www.panasonic.co.uk/html/en_G...142/index.html

Anyone here used the camera yet?

Re: Lumix G1 - new path for DSLR

Purely curiosity - when they say convenience, what do they mean? I know it's smaller than the last Panny SLR but not sure what makes it more convenient than other cameras.

I know what you mean about the rain Mark - I feel your pain as there's nothing worse than getting a new camera and not being able to get out and use it!

Re: Lumix G1 - new path for DSLR

I've got a G1 too. I used to have a Canon 450D - which takes great photos, but it's bulky and heavy. After a day's traipsing around, you really notice that you'e got it draped over your shoulder.

The G1, on the other hand (no pun intended) is so light and small that I never think twice about carrying it around. For me, that's convenient. I think that it takes even better photos than the 450D - I've attached a couple.

Whoohoo, another G1 owner at last, like the first pic, great framing.

Re: Lumix G1 - new path for DSLR

Thanks, Mark. When I first got the G1, there weren't many of us around. But our numbers are growing fast - not surprisingly because it's a great camera.

Did you know that Panasonic have released a firmware upgrade today?

I might get one of these, but have read that they will be bringing out one early next year that includes video.

Think I will wait.

Yes there will be a G1HD model due in the 2nd quarter with a 14-140mm HD video lens.

Look forward to the company.

Useful info; think I'll wait as well.

Sorry Mark, won't be able to "keep you company yet" , But it is handy having people to show us their results and give us some feedback .

Re: Lumix G1 - new path for DSLR

I was (and am) very conscious when I bought my G1 that after Christmas and when the G2 comes out, it'll probably be very much cheaper. But I couldn't wait!

I've always felt that some purchases you just feel good about - and some you just don't. The G1 definitely falls in to the first category. It feels good, it looks good - and, by golly, it tastes good...oops, sorry, I got carried away there.

Oh, what, it was just a mock up, not a real camera like the G1, you don't want video, its a gimmick, go on go get yourself a piece of cutting, bleeding edge technology ( G1 ) you know you want one.

Disclaimer,, anything said by me in this post is just an attempt to corrupt you guys into the next most logical camera purchase you will ever buy.
