Thanks: Gave 174, Got 122 | Macro's with Extensions tubes and ring flash
Decided to go in the back yard armed with the nikkor 60mm micro, kenko extension tubes and the marumi macro ring flash. It's amazing just how much closer you can get with the tubes on.
All images converted to jpg from raw, levels tweaked.
1. Seven Legs (no crop)
2. Ant (cropped)
3. Money spider (cropped)
4. My seven legged friend again (no cropping)

Nice clear shots, the lighting and focus are spot on.
I really need to get myself some sort of ringflash.

I got the ringflash from 7day shop a few months back for £94.99 incl delivery.

Some nice sharp shots.
That ring flash seems to give a nice even spread of light, seems good value for the price.
One thing puzzles me a bit, the point of putting ext tubes on is, I thought, to get beyond 1:1 that the lens will do on it's own. These do not look more than 1:1, unless they were really tiny bugs. Is it perhaps that the ring flash gets in the way when getting really close with ext tubes on a 60mm macro, and you cannot get any closer?

Nos 1. and 4. (Leiobunum rotundum) are very small, the body of the spider is tiny.
I did expect to get a little closer but with all 3 tubes on you have to almost be touching the subject to get it in focus, not possible with the ring flash on.

I had the same problem when I tried reversing my Nikon 50mm f/1.8 on to my Tamron 90mm macro, I was shading the subject with the lens.
BTW, 1 and 4 are technically a harvestman, an arachnid but different family from the spiders. |

4 very nice shots. Like the harvestman ones best. Great results with the kit.

Were these hand held or tripod mounted? Nice job either way.
