Camera equipment on holiday

Off on my jollies in a few days and I am in a bit of a predicament. My bag and kit I am taking weighs in at 4.5 kgs, but thats without my laptop in the bag. The laptop weighs in at 3.1kgs, which is over my hand luggage allowance somewhat. Does anyone know if the airport check ins are going to allow it?
Also, thinking of taking my tripod but how do you take yours? Do you check it in seperately or do you pack it in your suitcase? A bit wary of doing the latter as I can see that causing the bag to get searched and butchered.

Re: Camera equipment on holiday

I once packed my monopod into a suitcase no problems.

As for heavy kit - stuff your pockets, wear you camera round you neck. I dont think they weigh hand luggage - just look at the dimension of the bag. As long as it fits into the overhead - jobs a good 'un!

Re: Camera equipment on holiday

Thought as much, thanks. My bags a fastpack 250, which is airport hand luggage approved. Flying Virgin whose hand luggage allowance is 6kgs but who cares!! As for my tripod, think I 'll just buy one when I get there. US customs can be quite anal.

Re: Camera equipment on holiday

Most allow 10Kg but it seems more and more are allowing only 1 piece of hand luggage now.
We just flew back from the UK via Ryanair and my wife had to pack her handbag into the hand luggage as they will only accept one item per person.
