Which of these three point and shoot is the better one

Hello everyone

Im picking a camera for my sister,Its a birthday+xmas present which i will know she will like,Ive picked out three so far

Panasonic DMC TZ5
Panasonic DMC FZ8
Sony DSC-W300

Im going to spend £200 max

So what will she use it for, mainly for when she goes away on her hols with her kid which is twice a year summer and winter time.

I guess she will want one thats going to be good for indoors as well as outdoors and at night time,So a good flash is a must saying about flash ive been reading about shutter times&sensors and it looks like she would need to have a good one for flash shots???

Ive read for indoor shots you need a good iso,So thats going to be important in picking the right camera for my sis.

Well thats all i think she would want one for

Re: Which of these three point and shoot is the better one

They're all good cameras but if she wants something small and light enough to carry around then I'd go for the Sony. The TZ5 produces great pictures, but doesn't have any optical viewfinder which makes it difficult to use in sunlight. I also know of 2 people who have had problems with the lens cover on this model.

The FZ8 is quite a step up from a point and shoot and would be suitable if she is more serious about photography and wants to start manually adjusting things.

regards

Re: Which of these three point and shoot is the better one

Hi and Thanks

My sis doesn't know she would be getting a camera,She bought herself a computer last year and is still using a film camera,So i thought it would be good to get herself a digi camera so she can have most of her pictures on her pc,and then what ever she wants to print out she can.

When i looked at the FZ8 i did think it might be to much but the reviews for pictures was very good and the price is very good aswell,Im sure she would able to cope with it but im not sure if she would use it to tweak things alot,Would you need that sort of camera for pictures of kids and when she is on her hols?Ive not seen any of the cameras in the shop yet so i dont know if the FZ8 would be to big,The size doesn't look to big but its just a picture.

What sort of film camera does she have? And how does she use that? Just for point and shoot or does she get more creative with it?

In that case out of the three I'd still go for the Sony. Buy it online to arrive a couple of days before you're going to give it to her, then you have the option of returning it if she doesn't like it.

Re: Which of these three point and shoot is the better one

One limitation of the DSC-W300 is the small zoom range (3x). If this is an issue then the DSC-W170 may be a better option with a 5x zoom, but a lower resolution. I have just bought one from Amazon (collecting today, so I can 't actually comment) - unfortunatley the price seems to have gone up since I bought mine.

Had an FZ18 for a few months and very pleased with the value and performance.

Got it for under £200.
