What a (missed) opportunity

Hi,
I have been working with a local photographer as his second shooter at weddings and have loved every minute of it, but yesterday wow i am glad it was not my gig!!

The wedding was at a local castle at 2pm. The groom had agreed to be there at 1-1.15 so we could get the shots thay wanted, groom, best man ushers etc. Groom turned up at 1.55 and then told us we would have to wait as he was saying hello, fair enough but fi he wanted it all should he not have got there earlier. He had stopped at the pub, best man was so drunk he could hardly walk!
Bride want even dressed when her car turned up and got to the wedding at 2.20 (bearing in mind it was a 2pm wedding)
This left us with about 15-20 minutes after to get the group shots they wanted.
They got annoyed because the photographer reminded them that they were on a tight schedule and if they wanted all the pics they wanted done then they would have to stop walking off and chatting.
We overheard them saying they wouldnt pay the photog as they felt rushed.
Ugh dont get me started on the reception it was a 30 minuted drive away and they stopped off in the pub and were really late back.

What would you guys have done in this situation?

Still I got some nice pics, straight from the camera levels on 1 slightly changed, i am yet to work on them. The second one is a behind the scenes shot to show what an amazing location they could have had in most of their pics if they were a little more organised!

Re: What a (missed) opportunity

I've heard of a photographer dumping their client mid-day because they just weren't doing as he had told them. He literally just walked off and left them.

Benefit of asking for half up front and getting them to sign a contract of work.

I would of stopped off at the pub too! They want pictures of the day, sneak in, get some great candids! I guess the photographer is getting paid to take the pressure of whatever happens on the day - not rebound it back onto the guests i.e. if someone is late. One of those bite your lip moments!

Nothing worse that drunk guests, espically the best man!

Re: What a (missed) opportunity

Hi,
No it is Tonbridge castle.
I thought the orange was different, I know it is their perogative to turn up late, maybe all the others i have done they have all been uber organised where one bride even had a timetable and lists all colour coded!.
In the end we just went with the flow and got most of it as candids as they didn't really want to pose for formals. Lets just hope they dont ask why there were no formals done.
I am sure at some point in time I will find out if they pay!
The thing is the photog is not pushy, well i didnt think so but who knows!

Gosh i hope i never get one this disorganised again
