Gig Photography - An Experiment

Earlier this year I was pleased to hear that one of my favourite bands, That Petrol Emotion were reforming for a handful of gigs. Last week they played their first show in 14 years in a sweaty back room of a pub in Tufnell Park, North London, so I decided that I had to have snaps to remind me of what would hopefully be a great night. I had no intention of taking my SLR though; I suspected that I'd end up jumping about down the front like I was a youngster again
Instead I took my battered Olympus Mju II film camera, bought on eBay for around a tenner and loaded it with a roll of Fuji Superia 1600. The camera's got a very sharp 35mm f2.8 lens, so I guessed that I should be able to hand-hold without setting the flash off. I also reckoned that the graininess of the fast film would suit the atmosphere of the gig. I set the camera to spot mode and shot away; being in a small room with a low stage I was able to get good & close and I'm quite happy with the results; certainly not pro-quality, but a good souvenir of what turned out to be an excellent night.

The rest of the set is here for anybody who's interested.

Re: Gig Photography - An Experiment

I think you did a great job catching the energy of the set. I liked the one of the guitarist with his left hand blurred with movement
