Flash to go with Panasonic LX3

Hey guys

I was looking for advice on what sort of Flash will compliment my LX3. I want something that is cheap and does a good job. I have always had issues with the built in flashes which is why I went for the LX3 with the hot shoe.

Any recommendations? I want a cheap one. I friend of mine has a Nikon one which is amazing... it swivels sideways and horizontally as well. And it also uses some sort of white parachute cover on it which gives the picture a soft luminance where colours are not distorted and people complexions appear real.

I dont know if I have explained myself properly but in a nutshell.. a good cheap flash that does everythign I have mentioned above.

do you have the section of the tech specs or instruction manual that says what flashes you can use? I'd assume they 'recommend' a Panasonic one, but it should work with others. You may have to be careful though as the wrong one may not work or at worst damage your camera/flash


BTW, how are you liking the LX3? didn't realise they were out in the real world already. Was considering that or the Canon G9/G10 as a backup for my 40D

I just saw the manual online and it recommends the panasonic DMW-FL360 which will cost me an arm, a leg and my first born. The cheapest I could find was for £184.99. I aint spending that much on ANY flash. I have a Nikon SB100 or maybe SB200 flash I could use with it, but it doesnt tilt of swivel and I have used it on other digital cameras, its just too bright.

To be honest, I just ordered this so havnt really had any experience to give any valid feedback.

Any recommendations though? I am sure it will work with other brand flash, just need to give it a shot.

I would also be interested in how you find the camera. Some sample F2.0 24mm sample shots would be good. The Olympus and Panasonic flashes are (supposedly) identical and should work well, check out the Panasonic forum on dpreview. That does look the same I must agree.. Although its still out of my budget. Any experience with sub £70 flashes?

I will put some sample on here for everyone tonight.. although since I am a ignorant newbie and go for everything thats hot out immediately, I dont have a lot of experience with cameras to give good reviews.

When you mean F2.0 24mm sample shots, I will provide them no issue, but what does F2.0 really mean?

I have also read that a lot of people are not very happy with the 60mm limit on the lense.. does that really matter?
