Thanks: Gave 58, Got 77 | Attn 105 VR owners
Having just purchased a 105VR, upon trying it out there is a definate clunk and shift of image through viewfinder after pic is taken, as the VR disengages. Is this normal for this lens? I suspect not as my other VR's do not do this. If VR turned of it doesn't do it.
Also, yet to get the aperture to go as low as it's rated 2.8, it shifts with distance when taking portraits, odd for a prime, is this normal too, kind of negates the reason for buying it.
On a happier note, got jessops to do me an SB-600 for £125, so not all bad!!Not that I have a clue what to do with it.

Swap you for your D300? hehehe. The shifting has stopped, maybe being first time used? But the VR coming on and off is a definate noise/clunk.

Don't know about your noisy VR problem, but the aperture behaviour is normal for a macro lens. My Tamron 90mm macro is f2.8 max from infinity down to about 3m, then the max aperture goes up to f5.6 by 1:1.
The thinking is that you never use apertures that wide when focusing close, and so the optics design can be optimised for sharpness.

Have been reliably informed this is normal for this lens, it's the gyro's apparantly, obviously a trate of the more expensive glass as the 70-200 does the same.
Thanks guys, I can now go enjoy myself - wife's home, hide receipts time.
OW and has anyone seen my missing 20mm at the end of the 18-200mm.......

The VR is the 105mm is more clunky than other VR lens. It's perfectly normal and shouldn't cause a problem.
