Kids camera

My 5 year old daughter has asked for her own camera and I am looking for a recomendation. I currently have a Canon IXUS 500 and a 350D so my mind automatically thought canon. I was thinking of maybe a second hand IXUS 400 due to its cheap cost and accessory compatibility with our IXUS 500. I was thinking of spending as little as possible as she may trash it withing the week.

Re: Kids camera

Do you want a kids camera (bright colour full, limited function etc) or a proper camera but cheap?

You can buy a kidzoom - my first camera type for around £50

Re: Kids camera

That was one of my options, in pink though. The best price I can get it for seems to be about £48. It does seem to be the best option although I don't like cameras that use AA batteries as in the past I seem to end up endlessly replacing them.

Re: Kids camera

The VTech seem the only kids type camera.

Other option is the Olympus 1030SW shockproof, waterproof and crush proof (so they say!) The advert was the little boy trawling it through the back garden.

Pricey though for a 5yr old?

Re: Kids camera

My 6 year old twins want a digital camera. They did break my ultra compact a few months ago so I would personnaly avoid a 'proper' camera. Luckily Olympus repaired it under warranty.
Costco are doing the Vtech for £35 inc VAT at the moment, so if you are a member that could be worth a look, I think my local one only have the blue ones at the moment.

Re: Kids camera

Kodak do some good deals on refurbished or clearance cameras if you are looking for a 'proper' camera as opposed to the Vtech.

They even have a nice pink one in the clearance section. (AA batteries by the looks of it though.)

Buying a refurb model also lets you get a wee photo printer for a tenner.
