Garstang and District Agricultural and Horticultural Show - Showjumping

It's been a while since I've posted any sets on here, with work and weather I've not had much chance to get out and about.

Luckily the girlfriend wanted to go to this show in Garstang as she used to go as a kid, if I'd have known about it I'd have gone for the showjumping anyway!

It's amazing what a difference it makes when you shoot something your genuinely interested in as I myself ride and my family have three horses. Anyway, the weather was perfect - hot and sunny but with enough cloud to keep the glare down.

The photos (apologies, theres quite a few)

To begin with, a few of the horses and riders - not wonderful shots as I've missed bits of tails and hooves in places, but im pleased with them as "snaps".

A bit of jumping:

I found these quite a challenge with the bright white tents and difficult angles (as I was outside the ring) but I'm very happy with them overall.

Missed focus a little on some, but hey, practice makes perfect!

And I think this is possibly the best of the bunch, with regards to jumping:

And the winner (Clint Eastwood ) parading around:

As usual, click through for larger. For anyone interested these were all taken with the Canon 55-250 IS which was bloody impressive for such a cheap lens!

C&C welcome

Really nice set and testament to the power of the 400d with a good photographer. Nice one.

Some very nice crisp shots. The ones with the horses coming towards you as they jump are most effective - the closer the better. If you had enough range on your lens, a portrait view would be very good as the horse & rider jumping are fairly vertical.

Re: Garstang and District Agricultural and Horticultural Show - Showjumping

I did actually try a few in portrait but struggled to keep them in frame, only tried this towards the end of the show so ended up with very few - the best of which is up here.

There was one jump with the horse coming directly towards me but it didn't work too well due to highly contrasting colours, the jumps themselves were white and blue striped and right behind it all was a huge white marquee!

Great set of pictures there. I particularly like the third from last shot - great stuff.

And you're right about that lens. I bought it for my other half about 6 weeks ago and she loves it. I'e seen some results from that lens that easily rival shots from my 70-200 F/2.8L. A good investment and certainly put to great use by yourself. Well done

Ryan

You took some nice photographs there, hardly snaps.........well done! It's a shame about the white tents in the background but you can't have everything.
