Thanks: Gave 679, Got 340 | Go East young man - another photo shoot.....
So today I shot some promo work for Larry Godfrey, Team GBR Olympic Archer who is off to China at the end of the week.
Three flash guns and the D3 with various lenses.
A very likeable bloke who has been described as the Kevin Pieterson of Archery. When I asked him about this he said " Maybe Kevin Pieterson is the Larry Godfrey of cricket !!!"
Lets hope he gets gold this time around. He missed a medal by one point at Athens 2004.
Made the best of the location today. I mean how do you set up a flash shoot in a field with the target 70 meters away? I figure, well the bloke spends 70% of his time here so lets use it in context and get the job done.
It came about as we have supplied him various odds and sods which is nice for all concerned. He has had a Nikon D80, an 18-200 VR, a set of Nikon bino's and a Leica spotting scope.
A nice big poster is being made out of some of these pix and some ambience shots scored today. And if you are wondering, when he drew the arrow in my direction for my art, yes, I felt the fear!!!!
Finally, the bow is something else, carbon fibre, very accurate with all sorts of gubbins. This is where science meets sport but still requires a deft hand. |

I did wonder He actually looks pretty cool for a Brit athlete too. Not the usual Seb Coe.
That first one is a great "ballsy" shot.

I used CLS. 3 600's triggered by an 800 on body. The shot had three flashes at angles and the body driven flash with the head tilted up.

Cool set! I used to shoot at the same club as him - it's a bit like photography really; good fun when the weather's nice, and easy to pick up but difficult to master.
Was anyone else there, or was it just him? Just wondering if you got any candids of anyone else (always remember this old guy who used to turn up with a deck chair, flask of coffee and a long bow - robin hood style. He'd sit for ages, drinking coffee (I think!), and then jump up and fire off a couple of arrows before sitting back down again to carry on with his coffee. Quite a character, and always thought he'd make a good subject).

Nice set Pete - I think the last one is the strongest composition.
I think the contrast is a touch hard though - not sure how they would look in 4 colour print.

Superb pictures Pete,
I know they both chucks arrows, but there's something about that second picture that makes him look like a pro darts player.

Second shot is good, makes him look quite a dominating figure with his robin hood bow n arrow... Quote:
