holiday snaps from america

Just got back from a trip to America, stopped off at newark, las vegas and orlando. I havnt had time to go through all the pics I took, these caught my eye for some reason. I'm new to the dslr scene, I bought the camera a few weeks before I went to try and get some decent pics. Any comments on how i could improve would be appreciated.

My sister-in-law spotted this woman near a fountain in newark, next to our hotel, we thought she had a baby in her arms untill i zoomed in to look.I thought it was very sad.

Number 1 is a bit too dark IMHO, but I like the reflected sunset. With the shot of Times Square I think that a faster shutter speed would have stopped the blurring of the yellow text on the right which I find a distraction (maybe crop it out?)

I think the taxi gives it a nice sense of motion against the neon.

It is New York after all
